Problem:
Hong Kong is still considered a cultural desert.
Reason:
People are preoccupied with making money to sustain a high cost of living. Arts and music are only appendages in our educational system.
Solution:
We need to cultivate an appreciation of social culture as well as art of living.
Action:
Education must be multi-faceted
Arts and culture should be an integral part of our basic education. Instead of emphasis on academic pursuit, education must be multi-faceted.
Nurture culture
Instead of only building bigger cultural centers we need to develop human softwares first. Development does not come from bulldozing old buildings or disrupting and stifling local culture. We need a comprehensive approach to preserve more historic structure and the continuance of nostalgic sentiment which keeps us grounded in an age of turbulence.
